ARPA Funding for Law Enforcement, First Responders
$175 million in ARPA funds will support the work of state and local law enforcement to prevent and solve crimes in communities that have experienced an increase in violence or have faced difficulties combatting violence during the pandemic. A total of $75 million will go toward supporting the resilience and recovery of first responders who have faced challenges and stressors brought on by COVID-19.
Ohio Narcotics Intelligence Center
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed an executive order in July 2019 creating a specialized criminal intelligence unit to assist local law enforcement in conducting intelligence-driven drug trafficking investigations.
Ohio School Safety Center
The Ohio School Safety Center assists local schools and law enforcement with preventing, preparing for, and responding to threats and acts of violence.
First Responder Wellness
First responders face an increased risk of experiencing behavioral health issues including mental illness and substance abuse disorders. Fear of being seen as weak or not up to the job of a first responder keeps many from seeking help. Responders can build their resilience by increasing awareness about risk factors and warning signs, talking with each other, and using healthy coping strategies.
Ohio Traffic Safety Council
The Council includes representatives from federal, state, county, and local agencies and traffic safety partners and advocates dedicated to making Ohio roads safer. They will identify leading causes of motor vehicle crashes, serious injuries, and fatalities and take action to save lives using education, engineering, enforcement, emergency response, and public policy countermeasures.
The State of Ohio Law Enforcement Virtual Exchange (SOLVE) is part of Governor DeWine's 12-point "RecoveryOhio" Plan. SOLVE will provide case management, collaboration, data sharing and analytic tools for Ohio drug task forces and law enforcement agencies.
